Someone just forwarded this to me, and I had to share....
Let me say this upfront, as someone who grew up and spend 1/2 of her life at California, the passing of Prop 8 makes me sick to my stomach... I've always been thankful for the opportunity that I've had, the unbias and liberal of San Francisco had affected me in a great deal, shaping me into who I am and what I believe and respect.
This is a serious yet humorous approach, and I hope you'll enjoy this as good reading...

And I identify - Growing up I was a "them" because I'm biracial. *snark* I'd LOVE to have seen my town's reaction to our new biracial prez-elect. */snark*
Personally, I'm an artist, I went to art school, and some of my closest friends are gay. Actually, our friend Michael is going to be our child's godfather (he doesn't know yet, shhh! ^_~).
The UK has had equal-rights civil unions/marriages for years, and no one really raised an eyebrow. And the UK is still there, it hasn't been consumed by the sea of destroyed in some sort of fire-and-brimstone conflagration, marriage hasn't crumbled, etc... GAAAHHH! :headdesk: Being part of a racial minority that wasn't allowed to vote until well after women could has made me touchy on things like this... I'm gonna go calm down now.

But that was a very entertaining read, with a very valid point. It was interesting to have a skim through the comments as well one person slated her for insulting people though there wasn't any direct insults to anyone, anywhere in the article.
I guess some people will never get over even the tiniest piece of homophobia.
Yet here while you can only get a civil partnership at least you have the option to declare yourself husband and wife the civil partnership just takes the aspect of the church out of the equation even if you are a hetro couple you can elect to have a civil partnership, and that was all prop 8 was really about, the church not sanctioning the union of a same sex couple.
I've ranted long enough there... I could probably go on for forever about this.

but then I am used to all the metro cities along the coast, so maybe those votes are from inland places... who knows!! I know I've also seen Prop 8 being advertised for family value, which I totally agree yet what about those who choose to be different????? Or born different?? Should they be excluded from the right to choose????
Mind boggling isn't it??? BLAH!! Glad you enjoyed this though.... and yeah, I enjoyed reading those comments as well... lol
